Fall 2024 Winter Sowing Event! 30+ native species to choose from!
Want to grow your own native plants from seed? Join us for our 2nd hands-on seed sowing workshop of 2024! One jug per participant, provided - bring your own clear, gallon milk or water jugs and make more of them to take home!
Why sow seeds in the Fall?
Native plant seeds typically require exposure to the elements all fall and winter. They can "read the signs" and will sprout in spring (or thereafter, depending on the species) when conditions are right. This process is called "cold stratification." Many milkweeds, in particular, require a very long period of cold stratification in order to achieve germination success. Wild Ones has moved the Winter Sowing event to early fall in order to ensure great germination for our participants.
What to Expect:
This is a seed sharing event! Wild Ones will provide seed for 30+ native species; participants may bring native seeds to share (please, no non-natives.)
Wild Ones will also provide: one gallon milk jug per participant. Please bring additional clear, one gallon milk or water jugs if you wish to sow more than one species of seed.
Wild Ones will provide a high-quality soilless mix for your jug(s), plant labels, and tape.
Wild Ones will give a quick overview of how the Winter Sowing in jugs process works, how to modify the jugs, and what care they will need in the spring.
Come GROW with Wild Ones!
Donations are welcome to offset the cost of this event. Light refreshments will be provided.
